Cream butter sugar salt and vanilla. Add the bay leaves. Add egg and mix until just comes together.
Mix the flour and salt together.
Put the flour and butter into a large bowl and using a fork or pastry blender work them together until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Press into buttered muffin tin. Mix in the egg and vanilla until well blended. Cut into nine equal slices and place in the lined tin.
